1491--1554 Christ and the Woman of Samaria Oil on canvas, BH #420 18.75 x 15.5 inches Anselmi helped revive the art of painting in Parma, Italy. He painted in an "eclectic but highly individual mannerist style." The power of this particular painting is expressed in the faces of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. Jesus faces her with an intent gaze, but the Samaritan woman turns her face away. In the background a woman waves her arms as Jesus' disciples approach. |
