The Mocking of Christ
Oil on canvas, BH #302
33.5 x 43 inches

Trevisani paints with sympathy and anger the mocking of Christ in three works starting with the present subject Christ Crowned with Thorns . The face of Christ reflects the sad submission of the Son of God at the hands of brutes. On the far left, one of the guards turns to face us and points at Christ with a mocking smirk. On the far right, two pharisees inspect their handiwork. The only sign of human compassion is reflected in the face of the guard on the far right. He, too, looks out at us but with sadness.
